We like Christmas

on December 6, 2005

Here’s a very small drawing I did today for the back of the Christmas cards me and Eleanor are making:

I won’t show you the front of the Christmas cards, because that would be spoiling it. I’m sure it’ll show up online sooner or later.

I took Eleanor to the dentist today, where she finally got her (tiny) cavity filled. She had fun for the next couple hours rubbing her numb mouth and cheek on me. It poured all afternoon, but apparently my mom’s house in Virginia got a couple inches of snow – the one thing I miss living down south. We had “creole” catfish for dinner, and spent all night assembling Christmas cards while watching the Simpsons. Oh, and we hung up some lights around the house, too!

Set to Sea 28

The story so far…

Who saw this coming!?!

Eleanor and I’ve been pretty productive recently. I spent the morning researching ships and drawing the new Set to Sea panel, and Eleanor finished up a pitch for a kid’s comic. Then we went off for pizza and a movie with Antar and David Yoder – that new black and white George Clooney movie. It was very pleasant, dry and slow-paced. Then we spent the evening working on Christmas cards.

Set to Sea 27

The story so far…

Yes, a new Set to Sea panel. I’ve been up to some other things as well, which I’ll talk about next week.

Eleanor and I cleaned the house, went jogging (much easier now the weather’s getting colder), and made a broccoli/green pepper/tofu stir-fry for dinner. We’re still perfecting our stir-fry making skills. We’ve been listening to Beatles albums all evening and drawing. Soon it’ll be time to decorate for Christmas.

What have you been up to?

Set to Sea 26

on November 11, 2005

The story so far…

It’s been forever since I posted a new Set to Sea panel! Not only did I have a lot of other work thrown at me, I managed to spend at least two weeks messing around with this one panel. I kept adding more and more hatching, whiting out bits, drawing them in again. I’m not even sure if it looks good at this point, I’ve overworked it so much it’s starting to look like a schitzophrenic drew it. I’ve really got to cut it out with the over-crosshatching.

I’ll talk a little about some of my current projects soon, I swear.

Now I’m about to go jogging!

Set to Sea 25

on October 5, 2005

The story so far…

Another Set to Sea panel. I was getting a little irked with how muddy the crosshatching was looking when I reduced the panels to web resolution, so I’ve decided to start making them a little bigger. I’ll probably go back and enlarge the previous panels in a bit.

I found out (via Comics Reporter) that today was the 38th birthday of both Rob Liefeld and Ivan Brunetti. The sad part of this is that Liefeld has done at least (at least) 20 times the amount of comics that Brunetti has in the same amount of time on this planet.

Have you seen the new “Krazy Kat” book? It’s pretty gorgeous, even though Herriman apparently didn’t have any say in the coloring (and for some reason Ignatz shows up as dark green in one strip.)

And don’t forget that Blar is in the Little House shop now (if you didn’t grab it at SPX.)
