Set to Sea p. 59
Three little Secret Science Alliance-related things:
• SSA won in the “Best Graphic Novel” in an online kids’ book award called the “Cybils.”
• Here’s a pretty cute sketch of Greta. Since Joey helped to make the book, I guess it probably doesn’t count as fan art.
• There’s an video interview with Eleanor and other SSA cohorts up at TCJ.com right now, part 1 here, part 2 here. I’m far too embarrassed to watch it myself.
Discussion (7) ¬
Waiiiiiit a minute. Didn't the original page of this comic book feature some gruesome bisecting of pirates? I would hate to think that you second-guessed/self-edited yourself. That would do a horrible disservice to the integrity of this story (not unlike a certain alien that a certain roguish starship pilot originally shot in cold blood). Not all stories can get away with gruesome violence, primarily because it is used excessively, but this is not one of those stories. The violence, however graphic, was well placed and dramatically motivated in Set to Sea, contrasted against the established docility of the main character. If this is an edit, please reconsider the change. It diminishes rather than improves the tale. The impact of the original graphic, disturbing to some or not, is gone.
