Fluke 2017

on April 24, 2017

Heyo, this year’s Fluke festival is coming up this weekend, and I’ll be there. If you’re in the vicinity of Athens, GA, stop on by! I’ll have copies of Margo book 1, and I’ll also have these exciting pins and patches that just mysteriously showed up in the mail! (Warning: By wearing this symbol you may be submitting yourself to a strange and shadowy world of the supernatural.)

For now, I’ll only be selling these at conventions, so check the little schedule in the sidebar to see what’s coming up.

MICE and other creatures

on October 24, 2016

I’m back in Athens! But I have to leave again shortly, because:

That’s right, coming up this weekend: The Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo, or MICE! C’mon out and say hi! I’ll be at table #A32. I’ll also be doing an all-ages monster drawing workshop on Saturday, and on a panel about kids comics on Sunday! I’ll be all over that con! Like, say… a mouse… on cheese…

I went on the very good “All the Wonders” podcast, to talk with Matthew Winner about developing characters for Margo, and a number of other things. A very odd recording experience, as I was still up in Lexington, where everything shuts down promptly at 5pm and there is no wifi to be had. My brother very kindly snuck me into his place of work at night (a college theater) and I recorded there!

And I talked with Hillary Brown for a print interview at Paste Magazine! Margo, old 70s young adult books, Gnomes, and more. Hillary also lives in Athens, strangely enough.

Don’t say I didn’t warn ya

on October 15, 2016

Fair warning: You’ve got about a week to read the entirety of Margo book 1 online for free! Next Friday, I’m taking down all but a preview of the first three chapters, and to read the complete version you’ll have to buy the book version, or find yourself one of the many pirated versions that have already started popping up  >:-\

Don’t worry, upcoming chapters will continue to get posted online as usual – until book 2 comes out sometime next year!

Another life-post

on September 20, 2016

Howdy y’all! So the Margo book is officially launched! Immediately go out and buy it! You can get it from any good comic store or bookshop, Barnes and Noble, or Amazon, of course.

My September has been a blur of hospitals, nursing homes, day-long drives from Virginia to Georgia, and vice versa, raucous school visits including signing books for hundreds of kids, the Small Press Expo, and now Eleanor and I are back at my mom’s house in Virginia.

My mom officially left the nursing home the other day, and we’re trying to figure out what her life is going to look like for the next couple years. A Parkinson’s diagnosis is a real crap-shoot, and everything is especially confusing in the wake of a pretty debilitating bout of pneumonia. She could get better enough to live some more years semi-independently, or… not. So, we’re going to be in Virginia a few weeks at least, trying to set up home health care visits, finishing making her house more accessible, etc.

How’s this going to bear out on Margo updates? I’m still not sure. We’re trying to set up a little away-from-home studio here at the house, so we can get back to drawing. I really miss it – the only drawing I’ve done for the last couple weeks has been on the title pages of peoples’ books! The book launch and all the related promo is also a job just on its own. I’ll let you know as soon as I can.

Margo Book is about to launch!

on September 6, 2016

Amazingly, the Margo book launch has snuck up on us and is a mere week away! If you’re in the vicinity of Athens, Georgia, won’t you come out to the book launch? It’s happening at Avid Bookstore, Sept 13, 2016 – 6:30pm. And if you can’t make that, the Small Press Expo is the weekend after that – I’ll be at table L13. And of course, the book is available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble and probably any decent bookstore or comic shop out there!
