Aw dang it all

on December 6, 2004

So out of nowhere on Saturday, my computer went down, and wouldn’t start back up. I took it in to the local Mac repair shop, and they tell me that the whole hard drive is toast.

On the plus side, I do completely back up my data on occasion.

On the minus side, the last time I did it was over a month ago.

I’m fairly certain that I haven’t done anything in the last month or so that wouldn’t be fairly easy to redo. I hope. All of the book orders should be archived over at Paypal’s site. But if you emailed me about anything important in the last month, shoot it over to me again, cause it’s gone.

On the plus side, my new hard drive is 20 gigs bigger than the last one.

A tiny little man rolling an enormous ball

on December 3, 2004

About 20 book packages have gone out so far, so if you ordered your book in the first couple days it went on sale, you’ll probably be getting it in a week or two. More books are going in the mail soon.

On an unrelated note, I got to play a bit of “Katamari Damacy” at a friend’s house the other day. Have you heard of this? It’s a PS2 game that mainly involves rolling around a giant sticky ball that picks up everything in it’s path. You start by picking up tiny things like thumb tacks and candy, and progress to picking up mice, books, mailboxes, people, cars, trees, buildings, etc. It’s amazingly fun, and chock-full of wacky Japanese non-sequitur goodness.

Thanksgiving, etc.

on November 28, 2004

My mom and brother got back home to Virginia yesterday. We had a very pleasant Thanksgiving dinner at local restaurant “Johnny Harris.” Their dining room is very dark, with lighted wooden booths set into the wall, and a domed ceiling with pinpoint lights set in to resemble stars. Then we went to see “The Incredibles” (my second time.)

The packing of orders proceeds apace. It should be no problem to get these orders, and any others that come in the next week or so, out in time for Christmas. Maybe I can get Eleanor to come over and help me.

Now in the grand tradition of blogs everywhere, here are some albums I’m listening to right now:

Sloan – Twice Removed

The Cure – Boys Don’t Cry

Wire – Pink Flag

Nirvana – With The Lights Out

Back from Virginia

on November 24, 2004

The memorial service went pretty well. A lot of Dad’s friends and coworkers were there, and I heard a lot of stories about Dad that I hadn’t before. It was good to see a side of him that I hadn’t really gotten the chance to see. My mom and brother came back to Savannah with me to spend Thanksgiving.

In other news, the mailers came in earlier today, so I’m going to see how many books I can get packed up and ready in the next couple days, in between family time and coupon work. It’s going to be a busy couple of days!

Dang it, books are coming

on November 20, 2004

I decided to order some sample mailers, to make sure they fit the books and avoid a repeat of the last fiasco. I finally found one that’s big enough to hold the book, but not so big that the book sloshes around and gets damaged. They’ll probably get here in a day or two. Unfortunately, I’ll be heading out of town for the memorial service tomorrow. Hopefully they’ll be waiting when I get back, and I can get cracking on getting these books out.

I really apologize for the long delays. If I had any idea so many wrenches would be thrown into the works, I would have held off on the preorders until I had the books and mailers actually in my hands.

Once I have this system smoothed out a little, I’m hoping to open a more expansive shop page, not only for my own comics but for Eleanor’s as well. It’ll be awesome. I’m telling you.
