Thanks to everyone who pitched in with advice on my last post; I've been too swamped to reply properly. Here's a monster, sorry about that.

pandemonium

Eleanor and I have been trying to revamp our websites recently. It's been so long since I've been in the website-designing game, what are the kids using these days to make cool websites? Anybody got awesome suggestions, like a program that automatically makes thumbnail galleries for you and is easily updatable and is also very easy to use and customize and also free? There are so many awesome comics/illustrators with great websites out there, but I'm no longer able to suss my way through html source code, it's all CSS and what-not nowadays. Man, I'm getting old.

Just a little monster today:

mechimera

I didn't look up what parts a chimera actually has, I think it's better that way.

Our friend Max swung by Athens yesterday. Go check out his comics.

hermlet

We went to the circus in Atlanta last night. It was amazing.

I haven't been to one in decades, and never one so elaborate. They had big electronic displays and at one point they were playing what we all swore was a calliope'd version of Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up," but the attempt to stay hip with the kids just made the whole thing more charming. Also, goats riding on ponies.

Thanks for hooking us up with the tickets, Mr. Clark!

More monsters on Monday.

Seer, sucker

Be our guest, be our guest

We watched Cocteau's "Beauty and the Beast" the other night, and of course the Beast is the most memorable part. Cocteau reportedly undermined his own "happy ending" on purpose, to point this up! What a beautiful and flawed movie. I guess this sort of fits in with my monster sketches?

We find ourselves looking back

Had some bad luck silkscreening today. Looks like our 5 year old bucket of Ulano QTX has finally bit the dust.

Almost forgot to mention the nice shout-out Elo and I got from Sarah McIntyre today!

Yesterday Eleanor and I celebrated "Velenxmas!" What's that, you ask? It's a holiday combining Valentine's day, Eleanor's birthday, and Christmas. It is celebrated only on years that your girlfriend Eleanor spends nearly a month away in Arizona over the holidays and then you're both too busy to give each other presents for another month. Traditionally, one goes out for sushi and a beer before presents are exchanged.

It's one of the more obscure holidays, I think maybe it's Babylonian in origin.

Hey, Sergio Aragonés did a sketch with my pen in my sketchbook! This is not it:

He thought the pen was inadequate, but is a very funny and charming gentleman nonetheless. Catch some of his UGA lecture here.

Hey, Sergio Aragonés is doing a lecture at UGA tomorrow!

Hi to all the people who came by from Kate Beaton's blog! And if you haven't seen her comics, check 'em out. I'm a sucker for gossipy history, for reals. I'd have actually learned something in grade school history class if they'd told us the juicy bits.

More monsters next week!

No nudity here... today.

There was a life drawing session today at the Ga Museum, and I got some pretty good sketches done. This is not one of them, though:

I've been rereading the Scott Pilgrim series recently.

...Isn't everybody?

It's been so warm out, I got my spring haircut today! Probably prematurely. Have another monster:

A good excuse

I thought maybe I would start posting on the internet again! I'm in one of my intermittent attempts to be better about sketchbooking, and I'm trying to design some interesting monsters for an upcoming project.

More to come.

I find it really hard to keep up a sketchbook in a consistent fashion. I usually grab paper out of the printer if I need to sketch something. I blame R. Crumb for giving me a hangup. But look how good Eleanor's gotten, and she sketches like a motherfucker.
